Practice: As our young musicians develop their instrumental skill, practice is essential to their progress.  You can help stimulate their motivation to practice by allocating a quiet space and time into their routine with gentle but firm reminders! “Come on, it’s 5 o’clock, it’s time for you to practice now!”

Beginner Guitars are working of Yellow Submarine & Okey Kokey, advanced guitars are recapping EVERYTHING we’ve played with full chords and rhythmic strumming patterns..  You can find the repertoire on the Guitar Grooves tab of this blog.

Beginner Strings are practicing the posture sequence, the Ant Song, 1st finger placement on the strings and See The Little Monkey.  Advanced strings are playing The William Tell, Spring , the Warm Up page as well as scales D major, G major, A major (C major for Cello & Viola).

Recorders are working on their Karate belts.

If you wish you child to borrow an instrument you are required to complete the instrument loan agreement that you can find here and a weekly practice log to confirm that they are practicing – practice means progress. Instrument loans through school are free of charge from Friday afternoon to Monday morning, all loaned instruments must be returned by 8am Monday morning so that they are available for other students to use.  I urge you to consider renting an instrument to enable a daily practice routine, I am suggesting Harmony Music Company, they are local to Chula Vista and they have  a good range of quality student instruments. They are offering a ‘reduced deposit deal’.  For Violins it is $20 per month with a $40 security deposit, for violas it is $30 per month with a $60 deposit. You will find the Rental Agreement – here, simply fill it in, e-mail back you them at hmc@harmonymusicco.com and they will bring the instrument to you.  Please e-mail me to ask if you wish to check on the size of the instrument your child requires.

I have decided to temporarily split up the String Orchestra into beginner and experienced students.  Students who are beginners will continue to meet on a Monday & Wednesday morning 8:00 – 8:45am.  Students who have some experience with string instruments either through Opus or another source, will be rehearsing on  Friday afternoons from 2pm – 3:30.  They are more than welcome to assist on a Monday & Wednesday mornings as ‘String Ambassadors’ and they will be able to earn rewards through helping as teacher aids.  Their presence on Monday & Wednesday morning is purely voluntary at this time.

As beginners start to progress and develop their skills, they will be invited to join the advanced group on Friday afternoon.
This change will be immediate and will continue until I am able to merge both groups, at which point we will meet on Monday & Wednesday mornings.
Advanced string players will be meeting this Friday August 19, 2016 at 2:00 – 3:30.
